An IT corporate giant vs a product startup ! my perception and experience (2)

It’s a sequel of my previous blog post entry here.

After having worked with a startup for over an year and half, the idealogies and percpetions may change as what they were while working in a MNC. Let’s begin with a simple perception of startups on banks. I was denied a credit card from one of the leading American Banks after I told that my company’s employee strength is just 10. On top of this the moroon asked, is it a MNC? Oh ya, we have one employee each working in 10 different countries. How does that sound?

Many times it happens that startup began with a cool concept and lagging the most important ingredient “the way to make money”. Post launch of product, relaisation begins. No VCs will invest in a product lacking the way to make money. Startups may also adopt stern methods like salary cuts, leading to employees leaving. Apparently, they had not predicted the bitter calculation on how to survive for few years without VC. Consequently frustration arises and major revamps take in product leading to some revenue generation.

Crux of the matter is working with a startup does require a thorough evaluation of the whole idea, bank balance of the company, roadmap, business plans etc. Else it may turn out to be a rocky or rather unpleasant ride.
